Nobody Does it Better

A TV commercial had a high-impact phrase that was designed to capture attention, build trust, and cause immediate action. The phrase was, “Nobody Does it Better.” Of course, there have been several companies who have used this phrase including Safeway (food), L.J. Hooker (real estate), Wella Balsam (hair care), and Ford (auto manufacturer). Each of these companies wanted people to know that their product, or what they do, is the very best. When seeing the commercial with that phrase, my thoughts focused on God, not on the product they were trying to sell. Companies and people do not do anything better. It is always God who does things better than anyone or anything. What God has created and what he personally possesses is obviously bigger and it is better than anything we could ever imagine. What he does is best. Think about this.

 1)    God’s ways are higher and best. The Bible says, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” – Isaiah 55:9.

2)    God’s power and insight are best and stronger. “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit” – Psalm 145:7.

3)    God’s creation is best, purposeful, and excellent. “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” – Genesis 1:31.

4)    God’s wisdom and strength are best and far beyond ours. “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength” says 1 Corinthians 1:25.

God’s greatness is not measurable. His power, His peace, and His wisdom surpass understanding. The Bible reminds us that what He does is colossal. It says, “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He [God] who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name” – Isaiah 40:26. This verse asks the question and highlights God’s sovereignty over creation by showing that nothing is beyond His reach. Similarly, Psalm 147:5 declares, “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is beyond measure.” These ideas should reassure us that God is not only immense in His presence but also infinite in His wisdom. No matter what challenge we face, we can trust that God is bigger than our struggle and better than anything the world has to offer. Think about this:

God is Transcendent and Powerful.  He is also the Creator and Knowledgeable. And of course, God is Joyous as noted by his “very good” comment that was made about all that he created. We could say that no human could do it better because God always does the absolute best. He is a God of Excellence. Together with the Psalmist we could proclaim, “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:1. Yes, nobody does it better than our wonderful God who always does what he does best.

Awesome God

A chorus by the name listed in the title of this blog includes the words: “Our God is an awesome God / He reigns from Heaven above / With wisdom, power and love / Our God is an awesome God.” “Awesome” is an interesting word this chorus uses to describe God. In other words it means that God is amazing, remarkable, splendid, and tremendous. Not only is God described as awesome, but the song tells some additional things about God. (1) God reigns; (2) God is wise; (3) God is powerful; (4) God is love.

All these thoughts are a reminder of just how wonderful and magnificent God is and why we should praise, worship and serve Him. Even with the above words, it is hard to describe God. We can more easily point to God’s wisdom and power by looking at the beauty in the world around us. In addition, many people also attest to the work God has done in their lives – transforming and renewing them. Here are some additional things we learn about God from this song.

1)    God graciously extends His love to each one of us.  Probably no other Bible verse amplifies this idea and better describes God than, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

2) God wisely exhibits His knowledge which is beyond comprehension. “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” (Romans 11:33).

3) God mightily reveals His power in many wonderful ways. “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit” (Psalm 147:4-5).

My desire is that God would be known in a personal way by everyone. The Bible reminds us, “Yet to all who received Him to those who believed in His name He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). So, by personal faith in Christ – by receiving Him as Savior and Lord – we become part of His eternal family and are assured of a home in heaven with Him. What an awesome God we have who loves us so dearly that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us. He is also wonderful to provide a way for us to become part of His forever family. Indeed, our God is an awesome God!
